Man bitten by fox gets rabies treatment

GRANITE FALLS, N.C., May 17 (UPI) -- A North Carolina man is undergoing rabies treatment after being bitten on a golf course by a fox that was later determined to be rabid, authorities said.

The 76-year-old Hickory man was bitten on the lower part of his leg at the Granada Farms Country Club in Granite Falls last week, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported Tuesday.

His golf partners beat and killed the fox with their clubs and then called Caldwell County Animal Control officers.

When results from the rabies test came back positive, the man began receiving treatments, authorities said.

Officials said it was the third confirmed rabies case in Caldwell County this year, including a skunk near Hudson and a raccoon in the Granite Falls area.
