ALBUQUERQUE, May 8 (UPI) -- A Delta Airlines flight from Detroit to San Diego was diverted to New Mexico Sunday after a threatening note was found in the bathroom, authorities said.
Flight 1706 landed safely at Albuquerque International Sunport Airport and taxied to a secure area with its 137 passengers and six crew members.
"The flight landed safely and Delta is cooperating directly with authorities," Delta said in a written statement.
Delta said the flight was diverted "out of an abundance of caution."
KOB-TV, Albuquerque, said the FBI was on the scene and questioning passengers.
The Detroit News reported authorities said the message was found by a flight attendant. The specifics of the threat were not disclosed.
The Transportation Safety Administration said the aircraft was subjected to a security sweep, which turned up nothing, the News said.
Also Sunday, a Continental Airlines flight from Houston to Chicago diverted to St. Louis when a passenger tried to open an emergency exit in mid-flight.
The incidents came a week after the slaying of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, which generated vows of revenge from the terrorist organization.
