ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 28 (UPI) -- A man who led Florida police on a high-speed chase across Tampa Bay last year has been sentenced to federal prison on drug and firearms charges.
Police said Aaron Cainion, 32, of St. Petersburg refused to stop when officers tried to pull him over for driving recklessly in Tampa in January 2010, the St. Petersburg Times reported.
Instead, Cainion led police across the Howard Frankland Bridge at speeds up to 100 mph, hitting a Tampa police cruiser and a minivan during the chase.
The pursuit ended in St. Petersburg when police bumped Cainion's car off road.
Police searched the car and found more than 28 ounces of cocaine, $3,024 in cash and a loaded semiautomatic pistol.
Wednesday, Cainion was sentenced to 26 years and eight months in federal prison on charges of possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and possessing a firearm and ammunition after having being convicted of a felony, the Times reported.
