Police say several men in a car pulled up to the club and tried to get inside but were turned away. One of the men allegedly produced an assault rifle and opened fire, killing two people instantly.

Two of the four wounded patrons were in critical condition.

The names of the victims had not been released, the newspaper said.

The Oakland Tribune reported 10 to 15 people were in the club at the time and the gunman "appeared to be firing indiscriminately at patrons," Sgt. Tony Jones said.

No arrests had been made.
