Las Vegas casino robber flees without cash

LAS VEGAS, April 20 (UPI) -- A gunman attempted to rob a change counter at the Las Vegas Stratosphere Wednesday but ran off empty-handed, police said.

Lt. Ray Steiber told the Las Vegas Sun the bandit entered the casino's poker area, jumped over a change counter to find cash and fled "when he realized there wasn't anything to take."

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred shortly after midnight, Steiber said.

He described the would-be robber as a black man in his 20s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. He was about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 160 pounds.

Investigators are assessing surveillance video from the Stratosphere, a casino hotel with a 1,150-foot tower.
