FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 17 (UPI) -- A chapter of the national political action group the Raging Grannies has weighed in on a flap in the Florida Legislature over the use of the word "uterus."
Last month a legislator used the world in a debate on restricting abortion and was chastised by the House speaker, who said teenage pages in the chamber could have heard the word, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Saturday.
The local chapter of the Raging Grannies has responded with "The Uterus Song," sung to the tune of "Bye-Bye Blackbird" with the lyrics:
"Since when is it a dirty word/ to say the 'u' word?/ That's absurd!
We'll say 'uterus.'
We'll sing it strong/and sing it loud/it's a part of us that makes us proud
So we'll say "uterus."
We're not ashamed/ to call our parts/ their right names,
We're just ashamed/ of men who play/ these mind games.
So end the wars/ and feed the poor/ do what you were elected for,
And shout out loud... that word!"
