The U.S. Attorney's office in Seattle issued a written statement describing Dzeko as being wanted by the Bosnian government for his alleged role as a senior member of a Bosnian army unit that attacked a village in 1993, leaving 16 civilians dead.

Bosnia's extradition request alleges Dzeko was part of the Zulfikar Special Purposes Detachment, which raided the village of Trusina to ferret out members of the Croatian Defense Council. Dzeko allegedly took part in executions and personally shot a grieving woman to death when she refused to leave the body of her slain husband.

The statement said Dzeko, a naturalized U.S. citizen, faces 10 years in prison if convicted in the massacre.
