Trial of Las Vegas pimp begins

LAS VEGAS, April 12 (UPI) -- A Las Vegas judge said she expected a relatively quick trial for Charles Ford, who is accused of forcing a Canadian tourist into prostitution.

Clark County District Judge Valerie Adair told prospective jurors the proceedings would likely last until Thursday.

Ford, 49, faces charges of pandering and sexual assault against the victim, whom he allegedly forced to work for him as a prostitute for three nights in January.

The alleged victim, an Alberta woman whose name was not released publicly, told authorities she had met Ford while in Las Vegas during the New Year's holiday, the Las Vegas Sun said Tuesday. She said Ford sexually assaulted her repeatedly, threatened her and her family, and forced her to solicit men at a truck stop and on the Strip.

The woman made her escape with the help of a uniformed employee of the city's Taxicab Authority who put her in contact with the police.
