FBI tracking SoCal synagogue bomb suspect

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 11 (UPI) -- The FBI said Monday it appeared the suspect in an alleged Los Angeles-area synagogue bombing skipped town and headed east.

Ron Hirsch, 60, apparently boarded a Greyhound bus to New York City Thursday, but may have gotten off in Denver.

"There are at least 10 (bus) destinations in between Los Angeles and New York," the FBI said in a statement. "Additional investigation has determined that Hirsch may have disembarked the bus in Denver and may have further deviated from his original route."

The FBI, along with Santa Monica police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, has been looking for Hirsch in connection with last week's blast at the Chabad House in Santa Monica. A homemade device blew a large piece of pipe through the roof of the synagogue.

The Los Angeles Times said gunpowder and other materials used in the device were linked to Hirsch, although his alleged motive remained unclear.
