737 strikes bird, lands safely in Calif.

SACRAMENTO, April 9 (UPI) -- An Alaska Airlines flight Saturday from Sacramento to Hawaii returned to Sacramento safely after suffering engine trouble from a bird strike, officials said.

Alaska Airlines Flight 869 struck the bird shortly after taking off at 10 a.m., airport officials told The Sacramento Bee.

The flight was en route to Kahului, Hawaii, but was back on the ground safely at Sacramento International Airport 3 minutes after takeoff, FlightAware.com said.

The passengers were taken off the aircraft and it is being inspected.
