Woman's body found in trash-filled home

CHICAGO, April 1 (UPI) -- The remains of an 80-year-old woman who had not been seen in months were found under piles of trash in her Chicago apartment, city workers said.

The workers who found Cecylia Opilka Thursday told WGN-TV they could barely open the door because of garbage almost reaching to the ceiling.

Neighbors said Opilka lived with an adult son, but they had not seen him in weeks.

The Cook County medical examiner confirmed the body was decomposed and police spokesman Ronald Gaines told the Chicago Tribune the death was being investigated.

Last May, an elderly Chicago couple, Jesse and Thelma Gaston, were rescued after being buried under debris in their apartment. Authorities said they had been trapped for weeks and had rat bites.

In July, another hoarder, Marie Davis, 79, was found dead under a pile of debris in her Skokie, Ill., bungalow.
