ORLANDO, Fla., March 30 (UPI) -- SeaWorld Orlando said a killer whale involved in the death of a trainer last year returned to performing in Florida Wednesday.

Tilikum's performance in the midday "Believe" show was the 6-ton whale's first public appearance since the death of Dawn Brancheau Feb. 24.

The Orlando Sentinel said Tilikum's name was not announced to the packed house, but that is in keeping with SeaWorld's practice of calling all of their orcas "Shamu" during shows.

Trainers have not been allowed in the water with killer whales since Brancheau's death and SeaWorld has installed new safety equipment around the pools.
