Florida police cadet missing 4 days

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, Fla., March 16 (UPI) -- A Florida police cadet has been missing since Saturday, and her live-in boyfriend won't talk, law enforcement authorities said.

Kelly Rothwell, 34, was last seen leaving a Clearwater restaurant Saturday afternoon after telling a friend she was having "domestic issues," the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office told The St. Petersburg Times.

She has not returned dozens of calls, and deputies found her condo in Indian Rocks Beach empty Sunday and her vehicle parked two miles away.

Rothwell's boyfriend, David Perry, 46, suddenly moved to New York recently and has refused to speak to detectives in either state, the sheriff's office said.

"He's not helping us," said Detective Michael Bailey.

Perry is a retired New York corrections officer.

"Kelly was a really nice gal," said neighbor Ken Williamson. As for Perry, "He was an idiot. I didn't like him at all," he said.

"He had a very bad temper," Williamson said. "You could barely talk to him if there was a problem."

Bailey said there is no reason to think Rothwell went off on her own in the middle of her police training.

Rothwell entered the Police Academy at the St. Petersburg College Allstate Center in November and is to graduate April 13.
