ANCHORAGE, Alaska, March 7 (UPI) -- Police in Alaska say they have charged one soldier in the shooting death of another during a game of Russian roulette.
Anchorage police spokeswoman Anita Shell said Jacob Brouch, 25, was charged with second-degree murder for providing the weapon that killed the victim, whose name has not been released, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
The 26-year-old victim, originally from North Carolina and stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, was shot in the abdomen about 2 a.m. Sunday and died about an hour later at Providence Alaska Medical Center.
Both soldiers were attached to the 3rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, which includes military police and engineers.
The incident took place at Brouch's home where the victim had been staying since Friday. On Saturday, the two friends allegedly began drinking and posing for pictures with Brouch's handgun, police said.
"Eventually the gun-play resulted in a game of Russian roulette," said a written statement by Shell. "Detectives say that the victim was holding the gun to his stomach when he accidentally fired the weapon."
Brouch has served tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan, Shell said.
