Obama awards purple hearts at naval center

BETHESDA, Md., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- President Obama Wednesday visited wounded military personnel at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., the White House said.

"During his visit to the National Naval Medical Center today, the president met with 22 service members -- 21 of whom served in Afghanistan, one of whom served in Iraq," White House spokesperson Nick Shapiro said.

"While at the hospital, the president awarded six purple hearts."
