Employee sentenced for Disney data theft

NEW YORK, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- A former secretary who stole confidential information from Disney has been spared jail after blaming her boyfriend.

Bonnie Hoxie was sentenced to three years' probation and 300 hours of community service by U.S. Judge Alvin Hellerstein in New York Tuesday, The New York Post reported.

Hoxie, of Los Angeles, and then-boyfriend Yonni Sebbag had pleaded guilty to conspiracy and wire fraud. Sebbag was sentenced in January to more than two years, and is expected to be deported to Morocco after his release.

"I trusted someone that not only was I romantically involved with, but was a close confidant of over eight years. It is no excuse," Hoxie told the court. "However, I think I was blindsided by love, and not making the correct choices."

Public defender Robert Baum said Sebbag told Hoxie he would use the corporate secrets to invest in the stock market. But he actually tried to sell the data to hedge funds and investment firms under a pseudonym.

The FBI lured Sebbag to a meeting where undercover agents handed him an envelope stuffed with $15,000.
