WALNUT CREEK, Calif., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The bodies of two teenage boys who apparent drowned while rafting in a rain-swollen California creek were recovered Sunday, authorities said.
Matthew Miller, 16, and Gavin Powell, 17, both of Walnut Creek, had gone out on the city's creek in an inflatable raft Saturday afternoon, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
About 80 volunteers took part in the search for the boys after their parents reported them missing. The boys' deflated raft was found in the creek in nearby Concord, and their bodies were found within hours, the newspaper said.
Police said the Walnut Creek's levels can rise significantly during a storm, creating dangerous undertows, and it can be filled with brush and other debris that could damage an inflatable raft.
