Minn. man charged in Amtrak bomb claim

GREAT FALLS, Mont., Feb. 16 (UPI) -- A 24-year-old man in western Montana faces three charges after allegedly claiming there was a bomb aboard the train he was traveling on, prosecutors said.

After Amtrak officials learned of a bomb threat, they moved the train with 140 passengers to a remote area and transported passengers and crew to a middle school in Cut Bank, the Great Falls Tribune reported.

Four Air Force specialists and a bomb sniffing dog from Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls searched the train, but found nothing, the newspaper said.

Passengers were allowed to re-board the train at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Glacier County Attorney Carolyn Berkram told the Tribune 24-year-old Hussein Abdi Hassan pleaded not guilty to two charges of felony criminal endangerment and one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Officials allege Hassan, who lives in Minnesota, made the threat as he was being escorted off the train, but there was no indication why he was ordered off.
