Memphis domestic violence chief charged

MEMPHIS, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- The supervisor of the Memphis Police Department's domestic violence unit has been charged with threatening his wife with a gun on Valentine's Day.

Maj. Stanley Eason, 46, was released on his own recognizance after being booked Tuesday, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported. He has been suspended with pay.

Police Director Larry Godwin said the case will be handled like any other.

"As with any officer-involved situation, the ones involving domestic violence truly sadden and disappoint me," Godwin said. "As public servants, we are held to another level and we all know this."

Eason's wife, Lora, 42, told police her husband confronted her when he found her sitting in a car with another man. She said he pointed a semi-automatic weapon at her.

Eason has been a police officer in Memphis since 1988.
