YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Youngstown, Ohio, police say they don't know the motive for a shooting that killed a student at party early Sunday.
The 3:40 a.m. gunfire killed Youngstown State University student Jamail Johnson, 25, critically wounded Shavai Owens, 17, and left 10 others with lesser injuries, The (Youngstown) Vindicator reported.
Braylon Rogers, 19, and Columbus Jones Jr., 22, were arrested Sunday afternoon and are in the Mahoning County jail, charged with aggravated murder, firing into a habitation and 11 counts of felonious assault.
Court records show Jones was convicted in February 2008 of burglary and sentenced to three years but freed in April 2009.
Johnson and five of the other victims attended the university. The suspects are not YSU students, police said.
Johnson apparently tried to make the suspects leave the house where some Omega Psi Phi members lived, but they returned soon and "shot through the open doorway," police said.
Owens was in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center Sunday night after being shot in the ear. Most of the other victims were released by Sunday night.
Police said a dispute may have broken out at an earlier party and continued at the crime scene.
The sanctioned fraternity was in good standing, YSU spokesman Ron Cole said.
