DALLAS, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- A Dallas, Texas man was arrested on a third-degree felony charge for impersonating a police officer, officials said.
Sherman Turner, 29, outfitted himself as a police sergeant and drove a white Ford Crown Victoria, with emergency lights, a prisoner cage, handcuffs, baton, body armor and pepper spray, that resembled an unmarked police car, The Dallas Morning News reported Tuesday.
"If you were a normal citizen, you would think he was a sergeant," officer Derrick Walker said.
Turner was released from the Dallas County jail on $10,000 bond.
"They said something about impersonating a public servant," Turner said, denying he had done anything wrong. "Security is a 'public servant,' right? I don't think they like security."
Turner, a state-commissioned security officer, said he had police-type items because he is employed as a security guard.
"He was just someone that wanted to be a police officer really badly," said Sgt. David Graham, a patrol supervisor.
Walker saw Turner's car parked at police headquarters several months ago, and suspicious, Walker jotted down the license plate, the Morning News reported.
On Sunday, Walker, who was on patrol, saw the car, pulled it over and arrested Turner on an outstanding traffic ticket.
