INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- An Indianapolis police officer shot during the weekend died Wednesday morning, the department said.

Officer David Moore, 29, was pronounced dead around 6:30 a.m. at Wishard Memorial Hospital, Public Safety Director Frank Straub told the Indianapolis Star.

Moore's family had said Tuesday night they would take him off life support once recipients were found for his organs. He had been in a coma since being shot Sunday morning.

Moore, on the force since 2004, was shot four times, including twice in the face, during a traffic stop.

His father, Spencer Moore, is a retired police lieutenant, and his mother, Jo Moore, is a sergeant.

Thomas Hardy, who was arrested in a robbery about an hour after the shooting, is a suspect, but he has been preliminarily charged only with robbery and being a felon in possession of a handgun.
