FORT LUPTON, Colo., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- A Colorado woman charged with fatal child abuse has acknowledged she was on Facebook while her 13-month-old son drowned in a tub, police say.
The boy drowned in September. Shannon Johnson, 34, of Fort Lupton was arrested Jan. 11, CNN reported.
She was being held Tuesday in lieu of $100,000 bail, the Weld County District Attorney's Office said.
Undersheriff Margie Martinez described the boy's death as "an extremely tragic accident."
Johnson told police she put her son in the tub and was in the next room on her laptop computer, an affidavit filed in the court said. She said she went to check on the boy once, found him playing and then, concerned because she did not hear him, went to the bathroom and found him in the water and unresponsive, KUSA, a CNN affiliate, reported.
She described her son as "a very independent baby" who had made it clear in the two weeks before his death he wanted to be left alone. But she admitted doing so was "so stupid."
