WASHINGTON, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- U.S. President Obama will veto an attempt by House Republicans to repeal the healthcare law if the repeal measure reaches his desk, the administration said.
In a statement of administration policy released Thursday by the Office of Management and Budget, the White House said repealing the healthcare law would "explode the deficit, raise costs for American people and businesses, deny an estimated 32 million people health insurance and take us back to the days when insurers could deny, limit or drop coverage for any American," The Hill reported.
The OMB cited a Congressional Budget Office analysis that said the repeal would add $230 billion to the deficit over 10 years, and would raise the deficit by more than $1 trillion in the second decade.
"If the President were presented with H.R. 2, he would veto it," the statement said.
The House has scheduled a vote on repealing the healthcare law for next week, fulfilling a Republican campaign pledge. C-SPAN reported Senate Democrats indicated they won't bring up the measure for consideration.
