WASHINGTON, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- U.S. voters say they expect government spending, taxes and the deficit to rise over the next two years, a Rasmussen Reports poll released Wednesday indicated.
The survey indicated 46 percent of voters predicted federal spending will increase during the 112th session of Congress, while 17 percent said they expected spending would drop. Results indicated 29 percent of voters said spending would remain the same.
Forty-nine percent of voters said they thought taxes would go up during the next two years, while 9 percent said they thought taxes would drop and 37 percent said they expected taxes to remain the same.
Concerning the federal deficit, 64 percent of voters said the federal deficit will rise over the next two years and 12 percent said the deficit will drop. Another 21percent said they thought the deficit would remain the same.
Results are based on a survey of 1,000 likely voters conducted Sunday. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
