SANTA FE, N.M., Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Susana Martinez is New Mexico's first female governor and the nation's first Hispanic female governor, officials said.
Martinez, a Catholic, attended a New Year's Eve mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe before being sworn in, the Albuquerque Journal reported.
Her husband Frank and dozens of friends and family members joined Martinez at the mass at the 150-year-old church.
The swearing in ceremony was to be repeated with a public ceremony Saturday on the Santa Fe Plaza. Following Saturday's ceremony, Martinez was to attend a Children's Inaugural Ball at the Santa Fe Children's Museum.
