Man charged with trying to poison inmate

FLINT, Mich., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- A county jail inmate in Michigan was charged with trying to poison a suspected serial killer, the Genesee County prosecutor's office said.

The Genesee County Jail inmate was charged with attempted poisoning after he allegedly tried to put an oven-cleaning substance in Elias Abuelazam's food, The Flint Journal reported Thursday.

Abuelazam is charged with three counts of murder and six charges of assault with intent to murder, the newspaper said Wednesday.

Officials said the alleged poisoning, which occurred some time ago, carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The name of the poisoning suspect was not released.
