McConnell hails cooperation with Obama

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell Sunday cast the tax package as an example of cooperation with the president -- and a GOP victory.

Appearing on CNN's "State of the Union," McConnell, R-Ky., said, "I think we demonstrated on the tax package there are some business we can do. And if the president's willing to come and adopt positions that frankly I and my members hold anyway, why would we say no?"

McConnell said he would vote against the START treaty with Russia, citing concerns about verification and missile defense.

"I don't think this is the best time to be doing this," he said. "Members are uneasy about it, don't feel thoroughly familiar with it. And I think we'd have been a lot better off to take our time. We would have been willing to give them a time certain to complete this early next year."

Looking to next year, he said, "I'm hoping we will receive from the House of Representatives a full repeal of Obamacare. It will be hard to get that through the Senate, but we will be working to try to get a vote on that."
