FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Florida police said they arrested a woman accused of setting the crotch area of her boyfriend's pants on fire.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office said Berlinda Faye Dixon-Newbold, 38, of the Fort Lauderdale area, allegedly lit boyfriend Sheldon Gonzales' clothes ablaze Tuesday night while he was sleeping on a couch, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Friday.

Gonzales said he awoke to a "burning sensation" and extinguished the flames with his hands. He was not injured, police said.

A neighbor called police after hearing the couple argue at their door while Gonzales was attempting to leave.

Police said Dixon-Newbold, who admitted to engaging in a "heated verbal argument" with Gonzales, was charged with aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony. She was taken to the Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach in lieu of $6,500 bond.
