WASHINGTON, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- The newest U.S. Supreme Court justice says trying to keep up with the mountain of briefs crossing her Kindle feels like "drinking out of a fire hose."
Elena Kagan, who was sworn in as the court's 112th justice Aug. 7, noted her colleague Antonin Scalia's method of reading court briefs on his Ipad, but she prefers using a Kindle to tackle the massive amount of reading material tasked to her, ABC News reported Monday.
Still, the court's fourth female justice says her new job has been a "whirlwind."
"The learning curve is extremely steep," she said, "Sometimes is seems vertical."
Kagan filled the vacancy left by the retirement of Justice John Paul Stevens and was sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts before whom she appeared more than once when she was solicitor general.
"That's a little bit intimidating to know that the person questioning you has also stood in your shoes and has really done the job better than anybody else has," Kagan said.
"He's also a great, great questioner up there on the bench and he really challenges you as he should, you know."
