Poll: Holiday shopping begins -- for some

WASHINGTON, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- More shoppers are checking their lists twice this year than jumping into the holiday shopping season, a Rasmussen Reports survey released Tuesday indicated.

Results of the Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey indicated 44 percent of Americans said they've begun their holiday shopping, but 54 percent said they haven't started shopping yet.

Ten percent of survey participants said they've already finished their holiday shopping, compared to 85 percent saying they hadn't finished, Rasmussen said.

Fourteen percent of respondents said they plan to spend more this year than they did last year, while 56 percent intend to spend less and 26 percent said they think they'll spend about the same, Rasmussen Reports said.

Sixty-four percent of Americans said they plan to shop online this year.

Results are based on a survey of 1,000 adults conducted Sunday and Monday. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
