East Coast Internet service restored

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Comcast officials say they identified and fixed a server problem that affected Internet service to some customers on the East Coast.

The company said it was "unclear" how many people were affected by the outage Sunday evening but that Internet service "is working properly again," CNN reported.

"Late this evening, our engineers identified a server issue that was affecting only Internet service in Greater Boston and (the Washington) D.C. Beltway areas," Comcast spokesman Charlie Douglas said Sunday.

Engineers are working to find out why the server failed, Douglas said.

The disruption came on the eve of Cyber Monday -- the annual online equivalent of Black Friday -- when Internet shoppers are offered special prices.
