Body believed to be missing student

CLAY, N.Y., Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A body found Saturday in a park in Clay, N.Y., was believed to be that of a missing college coed, and authorities said they have arrested her ex-boyfriend.

The (Syracuse) Post-Standard reported Steven M. Pieper, 21, of Liverpool, has been charged with murder and was expected to be arraigned later in the day.

Pieper was charged after searchers discovered a body in Clay Central Park believed to be that of Jenni-Lyn Watson of Liverpool, who had been missing since Nov. 19.

District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said Pieper, who allegedly had resisted Watson's attempt to end their relationship in early October, is suspected of killing Watson at her parents' home and dumping her body "frankly, like garbage," in the park, the newspaper said.

"We do not believe she left that house alive," Fitzpatrick said.

"It appears whoever put her there attempted to conceal her presence there. It appears she was laid flat and covered up with vegetation."

Watson, a 20-year-old dance student at Mercyhurst College in Pennsylvania, had been home for the Thanksgiving holiday break.
