ST. LOUIS, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- The FBI says it is looking for suspects who abducted two teenage girls and demanded ransom from a relative of theirs said to be involved in a St. Louis robbery.
The FBI said the two kidnap victims, 13 and 16, were released unharmed and without payment of a ransom, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Thursday.
Authorities say they believe the kidnapping was related to an Aug. 2 theft in which robbers overpowered two guards at ATM Solutions, a business that services and stocks automatic teller machines, stole a large sum of cash and drove away in a company armored van.
The FBI says charges have been brought against James S. Wright, 32, for interstate transportation of stolen money in connection with that robbery.
The FBI would not say whether Wright was the target of the kidnap ransom demand but did say the money was sought from someone connected to the crime.
"There is no doubt money from the robbery is still out there and is generating ... additional crimes," said Dennis L. Baker, special agent in charge of the FBI in St. Louis.
Baker said he is confident of arresting the robbers soon, the Post-Dispatch reported.
