Human head, apparently, found at canal

DANIA BEACH, Fla., Nov. 15 (UPI) -- A backhoe operator found what appeared to be a human head on a canal bank in Dania Beach, Fla., authorities said.

Investigators were trying to determine if the discovery was related to another case in nearby Fort Lauderdale, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

A worker using a backhoe to clean the banks of the Dania Cut-Off Canal made the discovery Sunday.

A Broward County sheriff's dive team spent much of Sunday searching the canal for more evidence.

Homicide detectives conferred with Fort Lauderdale police to see if there is a connection to the Nov. 6 discovery of a mutilated body there, the newspaper said.

In that incident a homeowner found a container filled with concrete with a shoe sticking out of it. Police didn't disclose what body parts were found but said the victim was a white male up to 6 feet tall who was wearing a size 10 sneaker.
