Ex-airman guilty of killing GI

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15 (UPI) -- A federal jury in Washington Monday convicted a former Air Force senior airman of murdering an Army sergeant during a gang initiation in Germany.

Rico Rodrigus Williams, 33, was convicted of second-degree murder and witness tampering charges following a 16-day trial in U.S. District Court in the 2005 death of Sgt. Juwan Johnson, 25, in Hohenecken, Germany.

Williams was acquitted of a second count of witness tampering.

No date was set for sentencing. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Authorities said Williams, the leader of the Gangster Disciples in Ramstein, Germany, and fellow gang members pummeled Johnson during the initiation and Johnson died the following day.

Williams is the sixth person to be convicted in Johnson's death.
