Florida cops search water for body parts

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Police in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., are searching a waterway where human remains were found in a container for more body parts.

A man's body had been cut up and put in the container, which was filled with concrete to sink it, Sgt. Frank Sousa told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel Tuesday.

The victim was still unidentified Tuesday night, but police said he was white and between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet tall. He wore thick, prescription glasses and a pair of gray New Balance sneakers, size 10.

"Whoever is responsible for this went to great lengths not only to dispose of the body, but also to conceal the identity of the victim," Sousa said.

A resident found the container Friday in the waterway, which is near the intersection of Northeast 26th Street and North Federal Highway.

That it contained body parts was not immediately clear, but police sent it to the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office, where investigators chipped through the concrete inside and found the remains.

Police think the man may have been killed between Oct. 31 and last Thursday, Sousa said.
