GARY, Ind., Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Police say an Indiana man pulled over for speeding was driving with the partial remains of a hit-and-run victim hanging from the tailgate of his truck.
William Cecil Albrecht Jr. of Hobart is accused of hitting and killing Paul Williams, 52, with his truck, the Gary (Ind.) Post-Tribune reported Tuesday.
Police say Albrecht's 2000 Chevrolet S-10 truck was seen speeding in Gary and a police officer who pulled the truck over noticed legs and a pair of blue jeans hanging from the tailgate.
Smoke was coming from the truck, the windshield was shattered and Albrecht had glass on his arms and chest, police said.
Albrecht allegedly told police, "I hit a person."
As he was being booked into the Lake County jail, he allegedly told officers, "I drank about a case of beer today."
Police said Albrecht's blood-alcohol level tested at 0.12 percent. Indiana's legal driving limit is 0.08 percent.
Albrecht, 26, is facing felony charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death and failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, the Post-Tribune said.
