Boni Driskill said of her friend Susan Levy, "She's a strong woman, but as this trial gets closer and closer, it has become more difficult for her to cope, it seems," The Washington Post reported as jury selection began Monday.
When Chandra's father Robert Levy replays the last time he saw his daughter he still comes up with fresh hurt that surprises his own wife, the Post said.
"Something inside of me knew it was going to be the last time I ever saw her. I just wish I had done something. I wish I had said something," Levy said in an interview with the Post.
"What?" Susan said. "God damn it. I wish you had said something before now."
Prosecutors are making the case Chandra Levy was killed about May 1, 2001, by Guandique after he tried to sexually assault her as she jogged in a Washington park.
Robert Levy said he is "pretty sure" authorities have the right man.
Susan Levy isn't 100 percent sure and says she wonders if former Rep. Gary Condit had something to do with it, the Post said.
Levy was interning for for the Bureau of Prisons and there were allegations of an affair between her and Condit. The former California congressman has never been charged in her disappearance.
"I don't know. There's still a lot of questions that I have, and I don't know if I will ever get answers," she said.
