Teachers ousted for Facebook ties to kids

NEW YORK, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- At least three New York City teachers have been fired for improper Facebook interactions with students, district records show.

Laurie Hirsch, 30, a paraprofessional at Bryant High School in Queens, was canned in May after posting a photo of her kissing an 18-year-old former student on the lips, the New York Post reported Monday, citing school investigators.

The student later said he had had sex with Hirsch about 10 times, and records revealed 2,700 phone contacts. She said they were both gone from the school when the affair began.

Chadwin Reynolds, 37, a teacher at Fordham High School for the Arts in the Bronx, "friended" several female students on Facebook and tried to get one to go out with him.

Reynolds denied the charges to the Post. He also was fired.

Substitute teacher Stephen D'Andrilli "friended" several female students at Essex Street Academy in Manhattan and sent inappropriate messages, investigators said.

D'Andrilli, who did not return a Post message seeking comment, was barred last month from subbing ever again.

City education officials said they have no current policy on teacher-student Internet communication.
