LAS VEGAS, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Republican Sharron Angle piled up $14 million in contributions in the past three months in her bid to topple U.S. Harry Reid, D-Nev., her campaign said Tuesday.

Politico reported that's more than any candidate has raked in for any quarter this election cycle and dramatically eclipsed the $1.7 million Angle, who has Tea Party support, had in the bank at the end of the previous quarter.

Reid's war chest has been healthy, as well. While he hasn't yet reported his total for the latest quarter, he had $8.9 million in the bank at the end of June and had raised a total of $13.8 million, Federal Election Commission records showed.

"Sharron Angle produced one of the most successful single quarters of fundraising in the nation's history for a U.S. Senate campaign," Politico quoted Angle spokesman Jarrod Agen as saying. "This is a testament to the hatred of Harry Reid, the nation's disapproval of President Obama and the unprecedented grass-roots support for Sharron Angle. Harry Reid is losing this race, he knows it and he is just going to get more desperate over the final three weeks."
