5 die in Michigan car crash

BRIGHTON, Mich., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- A car crossed a highway median in Michigan and slammed into a sport utility vehicle Sunday afternoon, leaving five people dead and four injured, police said.

The crash occurred about 3:30 p.m. on U.S. 23 south of Brighton, about 30 miles west-northwest of Detroit, the Lansing State Journal reported.

Green Oak Township police said the fatalities included a 19-year-old Okemos woman, an 18-year-old Williamston woman and an 18-year-old Okemos man in the car, and a 62-year-old Ohio woman and a 56-year-old man in the SUV.

Three of the four injured were children, ages 10, 5 and 3, who were in the SUV. The fourth was a teenager who was in the car.
