No comment on Gitmo inmate torture suit

MIAMI, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The United States had no immediate comment on torture allegations made in a lawsuit filed by a former detainee at the Guantanamo, Cuba prison.

Abdul Razak al Janko filed suit last week alleging he was tortured and routinely abused while in U.S. custody in Afghanistan and later at the high-security lockup at Guantanamo.

"We're reviewing the suit and will respond in court," Dean Boyd, spokesman for the U.S. Justice Department's National Security Division, told the Miami Herald.

The 44-page lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County covers the Syrian national's 10 years in U.S. custody and details alleged abuse by interrogators and military guards.

The Herald said Janko was one of four Gitmo inmates freed by a federal judge last year, in large part because Janko had been held prisoner by the Taliban for more than a year before he was captured by U.S. troops.
