TOLEDO, Ohio, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A man accused of a stabbing spree in two other states has been indicted in the stabbing of a church custodian in Toledo, Ohio, officials said.
A Lucas County grand jury Friday charged Elias Abuelazam, 33, an Israeli citizen living in Flint, Mich., with felonious assault and attempt to commit murder, the Toledo Blade reported.
Tony Leno was attacked Aug. 7 by a man who approached him to ask for directions. He has since been released from the hospital.
If convicted, Abuelazam faces up to 10 years in prison in the Toledo case.
Abuelazam already faces murder charges in Michigan. Prosecutors say he stabbed five men to death and attacked a dozen others in the same manner in Flint between May 24 and Aug. 2. He is suspected also attacking three men in Leesburg, Va., on Aug. 3, 5, and 6.
"Our case is a good case. It's a strong case. And we have good proof and solid evidence, we should go forward with it. And if we have to wait a bit until he's finished in Michigan, we've done that before," Julia Bates, a Lucas County prosecutor, told WTOL-TV in Toledo.
