Couple jailed for tying kids to their beds

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A 26-year-old California woman and her boyfriend have been sentenced to 270 days in jail for tying up their sons so they could sleep better, officials said.

Orange County residents Cheryl Ann Stuart, 25, and Mario Alberto Colin, 31, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of child abuse and one felony count of corporal injury to a child, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Police said Stuart tied her sons, 2 and 5, to their crib and bed with elastic bandages and shoe laces so "she could sleep well" and not worry about them running around, the Times said.

Police also said the children were beaten and improperly fed. The parents were also sentenced to three years of probation, the report said.
