O'Donnell says she's not a witch in ad

DOVER, Del., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Christine O'Donnell, the Delaware Republican candidate running for the U.S. Senate, says in her latest campaign ad "I'm you" and "I'm not a witch."

Referring to news reports that include a 1999 statement that she once dabbled in witchcraft, O'Donnell said "I'm nothing you've heard. I'm you," Politico reported Monday.

"I'm not a witch," she said.

"None of us are perfect, but none of us can be happy with what we see all around us: Politicians who think spending, trading favors and backroom deals are the ways to stay in office," O'Donnell said in her first ad since engaging the GOP firm Strategic Perception. "I'll go to Washington and do what you do. I'm Christine O'Donnell and I approved this message: I'm you."

O'Donnell, who defeated long-time congressman Mike Castle in the GOP primary last month and faces Democrat Chris Coons in the general election, has struggled to get her campaign message out amid a crush of damaging reports about statements she's made in the past.
