Attempts to resuscitate them were unsuccessful, and they were taken to a local hospital where they were pronounced dead, the newspaper said.

Most of the fire was at the rear of the first and second floors, fire officials said, and residents of an adjacent house were evacuated.

The identities of the victims were not released, and the cause of the fire was still under investigation, officials said.
