Florida baby dies in car outside church

MIRAMAR, Fla., Oct. 4 (UPI) -- A baby girl died after being left in a car in a church parking lot, Florida police said Monday.

Kimberly James's father drove to Holiness Born Again Church of Jesus in Miramar at 11:30 a.m. Sunday and left her in the car, police told the South Florida Sun Sentinel. The father's name was not released.

About 3:15 p.m., someone discovered the 14-month-old child and called police. Paramedics took her to Memorial Regional Hospital where she died.

Temperatures in the area approached 90 degrees in the shade.

Police said charges are pending the outcome of an investigation.

Kimberly was the third South Florida child to die in the last two months after being left alone in a sweltering car, according to Safe Kids Palm Beach County.

Haile Brockington, 2, died in Delray Beach Aug. 5 after being left alone in a car for at least six hours outside her day care center. On Aug. 27, 3-year-old Jossue Medina's mother left her alone in a car in south Miami-Dade County and she died.
