WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama's Democratic policies were blamed Saturday for unemployment and national debt in the Republican party's national radio address.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., the party's House deputy whip, said liberal policies instituted by Obama's $787 billion stimulus bill Congress passed a year and a half ago were hobbling the country, The Hill newspaper reported from Washington.

"As a result of the economically disastrous policies of the current administration, millions of Americans are out of work today, and our children will be saddled with a deficit and debt that is, by every definition, out of control," McCarthy said.

His comments came on the heels of the party's release this week of its "Pledge to America," in which the GOP calls for a rollback of government spending.

"We must reverse our current course of action and reject the job-killing policies of the Democratic majority," McCarthy said in the radio and Internet address. "We will take back our country and restore our right to a better future."
