Mich. police seek missing bank executive

DETROIT, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Police in Michigan say they are looking for clues in the disappearance of an executive of a financially struggling bank.

Police say David Allen Widlak's car was discovered in the parking lot of a Mount Clements branch of Community Central Bank Monday, but Widlak was not in the bank and his office was in disarray, The Detroit News reported.

The disappearance of Widlak, 62, has caused the Macomb County Sheriff's Office to launch a missing person search and contact the FBI, the newspaper said.

Employees and friends told police Widlak was expected to be at the bank over the weekend.

His vehicle was spotted in the lot Sunday evening and apparently hasn't moved since, police said.

Community Central Bank has reportedly been struggling, receiving a "zero stars" safety rating -- the lowest -- for the first and second quarters of 2010 from a financial service that uses federal bank data to gauge the soundness of banks.

The possibility of foul play is being evaluated, as are other scenarios, Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel said.

Widlak, an attorney, was elected chairman of Community Central in 1999 after being persuaded to invest in the new bank, the News reported.
